During the warm weather of the summer months, there is an increase in oil production from the sebaceous glands in your skin, which deliver sebum to the surface of the skin through the pores. Sebum helps to lock moisture into the skin, and also acts as a barrier from harmful bacteria and dirt. However, if the skin produces too much sebum skin can feel oily, and without regular cleansing to lift away the dirt caught in the sebum, pores can become blocked. As a result, in the summer, a good quality cleanser is one of your best skincare friends, along with all-important SPF to help protect your skin from the ageing effects of UVA and UVB rays.
Unlike the balmy days of summer, it’s harder for your skin to maintain adequate moisture levels in the autumn and winter. Cold and windy days whip precious moisture away from the skin, leaving it dry (and in some cases, sore). Damage to the skin can cause redness and irritation, leaving skin feeling tight, dry and uncomfortable. Central heating is another contributing factor to dry skin, so when the weather turns colder a fabulous moisturiser is an absolute necessity!
