Christmas Party Skin

Christmas Party Skin

It’s coming up to party season and chances are, your skin isn’t quite as ‘party ready’ as you’d like it to be. The combination of cold mornings and central heating make skin feel dry and tight, and dry skin can appear dull and lacklustre – not quite the look that many of us hope for when we are dressing up to go ‘out out’.

So what can you do to improve the texture and condition of your skin? I recently had a Mandelic Peel and Dermal Needling procedure (a combination treatment that works to reveal a clearer, glowing complexion and smoother skin) and have been really pleased with the results – results that patients too have seen time and again in our clinic with this duo of effective anti-ageing treatments.

The first treatment in this process is the application of the Mandelic Peel – a chemical peel from the Skinmed Enerpeel range of skin peels that encourages cell-turnover, helping to reveal a clearer complexion and smooth the surface of the skin. The Peel is applied after a numbing cream has been administered and left on for 40 minutes.  The Mandelic Peel is left on for 8-10 minutes, before the Dermal Needing treatment starts.

Dermal Needling involves the use of a mechanical micro needling device (we use Derma FNS) to create thousands of tiny holes in the skin.  This action encourages the release of serum growth factors which stimulate the breakdown of old fibrous collagen and prompt the production of new collagen and elastin.  Dermal Needling can help to tighten and rejuvenate skin, and to reduce the appearance of scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores and stretch marks.  It can also be used to tackle pigmentation of the skin (i.e. age spots or melasma).  Thanks to the effectiveness of the numbing cream and the use of a very fine micro-needle, this process is relatively painless, though patients may feel the occasional and mild sensation of scratches to the skin.

The combination of the Mandelic Peel and Dermal Needling has not only improved the condition and texture of the skin of my patients, but also my own skin:

Generally, we recommend a course of up to four combined Mandelic Peel and Dermal Needling treatments to patients for maximum effectiveness, though we carefully assess every patient’s unique skin condition and concerns when tailoring a skincare regime.
